Fatty Diary: $300 for being 300 pounds?

The other week, I started work like any normal day. I actually was having a cheerful morning. Woke up on time and got there early so I headed to the kitchen to get coffee, like I do every single morning. Unfortunately, I was about to see something that would ruin my day and week. I noticed a sign…

I guarantee that something like this would increase my health insurance costs to a company, because I would be so filled with rage that I would need numerous chiropractor visits and possibly pain medication—and don’t forget the productivity that would be lost at the same time.  (Just like last week’s nightmare fill-in OB locked up my entire upper back and triggered a three-day migraine.)

STRESS, unlike fat, has clear demonstrated negative causal effects on health.  And the purpose of health insurance in the first place is to evenly distribute costs, NOT to penalize people who might, for whatever reason (pre-existing conditions, uteruses, whatever) end up using it more.

Universal health care, Socialised medicine, free at the point of use public services; could it be any clearer? This is a disgusting attack on workers’ rights and I’m appalled at the union in particular.

Capitalism will exploit along any line it can for profit not caring if this woman can’t afford it or what health matters actually relate to arbitrary facts like waist measurements.

Katie Makkai - Pretty

"Because equality is not a concept. It’s not something we should be striving for. It’s a necessity. Equality is like gravity, we need it to stand on this earth as men and women, and the misogyny that is in every culture is not a true part of the human condition. It is life out of balance and that imbalance is sucking something out of the soul of every man and women who’s confronted with it. We need equality, kinda now."

"No woman can call herself free who does not own and control her body. No woman can call herself free until she can choose consciously whether she will or will not be a mother."

"The Feminist agenda is not about equal rights for women. It is about a Socialist, anti-family political movement that encourages women to leave their husbands, kill their children, practice witchcraft, destroy Capitalism, and become lesbians."

- Pat Robertson

"And, you know, politics aside, the success of Sarah Palin and women like her is good for all women — except, of course, those who will end up, you know, like, paying for their own rape kit ‘n’ stuff. But for everybody else, it’s a win-win. Unless you’re a gay woman who wants to marry your partner of 20 years. Whatever. But for most women, the success of conservative women is good for all of us. Unless you believe in evolution. You know, actually, I take it back. The whole thing’s a disaster."

"Feminine weaknesses and fainting spells are the direct result of our confining young girls to the house, bent over their needlework, and restrictive corsets."
